Grovetown, GA, was originally incorporated in 1881. Today, it is the most populated incorporated area in Columbia County, GA. Due to its proximity to Augusta, GA, and the Savannah River, it is considered part of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA). Despite being incorporated almost 150 years, the city of Grovetown remained a sleepy town until the past two decades. In fact, long-time residents of Grovetown can easily recall when the area was simply the “country” counterpart to the cities of Augusta and Aiken.

Now, the population growth – driven in part by Grovetown’s proximity to Fort Gordon, a US Army Installation – continually draws new construction and new local businesses to the area. Grovetown residents attend Columbia County schools, which are some of the most highly ranked schools both in the CSRA and the state of Georgia. The largest national employer in the Grovetown area is John Deere. The plant is currently considered the highest volume producer of tractors amongst all John Deere facilities. If you have interest in learning more about the history of Grovetown, the city has its own museum. Grovetown Museum is located in restored home built more than 100 years ago, and it is open to the public Friday – Sunday.
